The first ITSO 2.1.4 certified Retail POST hits the shop floor

17 August 2010

Loading electronic travel tickets onto smart cards at the till has now become a reality thanks to the ACT Retail POST, the first ITSO 2.1.4 certified Point of Service Terminal (POST) to hit the high street. ITSO is the national government standard for e-ticketing in the UK.

ACT, the leading provider of ticketing systems and services, has today announced successful ITSO 2.1.4 certification of its retail ticketing application called the Retail POST.

The Retail POST by ACT provides a touch screen interface with which travel shop staff can load ITSO travel tickets to smart media such as smart cards. Customers can also collect their online ticket and pay as you go travel top-ups from the ACT Retail POST.

The Retail POST by ACT is a flexible, user friendly rail or bus ticketing application, primarily focused at the retail marketplace and is deployed within EPOS, TVM and EMV environments providing a convenient retail channel for customers to buy, collect or top up their ticket.

The Retail POST by ACT can load a variety of travel products onto a smart card including; city passes, eMoney, multi-trip tickets, single or return tickets and Stored Travel Rights (STR) as well as fulfilling vouchers and online ordering.

With the Retail POST it is easy for customers and vendors to view the tickets held on the card as well as update it with new entitlements and tickets purchased. As customers now have the ability to manage their ticket needs online it's convenient to load new tickets and eMoney from home or work, rather than queuing at the station.

The Retail POST, together with the ACT enterprise ticketing transaction back office engine called the ACT HOPS, the ACT central Customer Management System, the ACT call centre portal and online customer portal, provides the first fully integrated suite of ticketing systems for the transit market.

Commenting on this latest ACT innovation, Gary Watts, Managing Director said: "We are very excited about the ACT Retail POST, which we have designed and built to service the retail ticketing market. It has been a significant research and development investment for over a year now, culminating in months of ITSO certification to meet the latest 2.1.4 ITSO standard. Having been developed to meet exacting market requirements, we are pleased to have already secured a number of large contracts already and are very excited about the early interest we are receiving."
