Team ACT complete Seven Bridge Sportive for local children’s charity

25 September 2014

ACTTeam ACT took up the challenge of the Severn Bridge Sportive raising over £1,500 for local charity, Springboard, which offers support for young children who need a little extra help and support.

The ACT cycling team set off early from Castle Combe on Sunday, 24 August for a challenging but enjoyable ride. The route twisted its way through the countryside from Castle Combe towards Bath, then over the Second Severn Crossing to Chepstow before steering a challenging route back to Castle Combe.

The team chose to raise funds for Springboard due to its vital role in supporting children who need specialist support to give them a good start in life. Partially funded by the Local Authority, it is first and foremost a playgroup, but it’s equipped to support children who need more staff time, stimulation and understanding than a normal playgroup could give them. Children who, for a variety of reasons, need specialist support because of physical, emotional or language problems, thrive at Springboard and the centre also provides crucial support and advice for parents.

Taking into account gift aid, the many generous donations, doubled through ACT’s corporate donation, raised over £1,500. That’s enough to fund a child’s place at the centre for six months.

Jane Boulton, Springboard Manager explained why fundraising is so important: “The continuation of our provision for children under five with disabilities at Springboard relies very much on the kind and generous support of people such as yourselves. We pride ourselves on being able to offer places and sessions to children as soon as they need it and for as long as they need it.”

Please read the story reported by the Gazette and Herald for more information on why fundraising is so important to Springboard.

The ACT cycling team would like to thank everyone who donated so generously.
