Parkeon incorporates ACT’s remote ticketing technology into its ticketing machines

17 July 2014

Parkeon Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) now incorporate ACT’s Remote POST software to provide passengers with a convenient way to load tickets onto their smart cards.

Parkeon has been working with ACT to develop TVMs that give rail passengers a far easier way to keep their smart travel cards loaded with the tickets they need to travel. The company’s Astreo and Galexio TVMs can be deployed to enable passengers to buy and load tickets onto their smart card at the station, or simply to load tickets they have purchased online in advance.

Parkeon is a global leader in mass transit ticketing and parking payment solutions. It joined ACT’s Cloud Partner Programme earlier this year to integrate ACT’s Remote POST technology into its Astreo and Galexio TVM ranges. The ITSO certified TVMs can now utilise ACT’s Cloud Ticketing service to process the purchase and collection of rail tickets using smart cards.

The launch of this service is an industry first for rail ticketing. Powered by ACT’s Cloud Ticketing service, the TVM solution has been awarded full Rail Settlement Plan (RSP) accreditation for use in the UK rail market. Once the TVMs are deployed across UK rail stations, more passengers are expected to switch from paper tickets to smart cards leading to benefits such as reduced queues at ticket offices and speedier boarding.

Paul Moirano, Parkeon Sales Director for UK Rail, said, “By joining the ACT Cloud, we are able to offer speedy ticket vending to smart card holders. Rail passengers are set to benefit from this new service, helping them to load the tickets they need onto a single, reusable smart card.”

ACT developed its Cloud Ticketing services to provide a wider, more accessible retail network for smart cards giving passengers an easy way to buy and download tickets. Its Cloud Partners include companies such as Parkeon, RSL (Region Services Limited) and PayPoint.

Gary Watts, CEO, ACT explained: “Our Cloud Ticketing service has been designed to provide our partners and clients with an accessible and secure ticket fulfilment network.  Adhering to the latest industry standards, including ITSO, our partners can simply connect their ticketing systems to our Cloud and start transacting. We provide the secure, resilient and scalable infrastructure that enables our partners to grow their services fast, reliably and cost-effectively, by tapping into the ACT Cloud.”
