Go-Ahead Group win “Excellence in Technology” award

Go-Ahead Group recently won an “Excellence in Technology” award at the National Transport Event in London.  The award highlights new technology advancements with Go-Ahead’s smartcard called ‘the key’ which has been successfully introduced across the company’s bus and rail operations, and serves as a benchmark for other transport operators.

An important element of the success of the Go-Ahead smart ticketing system roll out can be directly attributed to the innovation and successful implementation of ACT’s large scale customer transaction management products and operational services that underpin the smart ticketing scheme across all of their operating groups.

ACT provided the latest in electronic back office ticketing systems and services to the Go-Ahead Group, and included the introduction of the first Retail POST®, a front of house retail EPOS system - the first ITSO compliant product of its type.

The Retail POST® by ACT, introduced first at Go-Ahead, was delivered and enables bus depots, travel centers and retail outlets such as Debenhams in Oxford and Plymouth a chance to provide smartcard customers with the ability to top up their travel products and/or purchase new travel products in-store.  The Retail POST® integrates effortlessly into the ACT back office travel system called the HOPS and its customer management system (CMS), which when combined together provides powerful new efficiencies and management information for the Go-Ahead Group. This includes services such as price change updates, reporting services and journey transaction information.

The HOPS by ACT, used by Go-Ahead Group, is an essential part of the solution providing the central transaction processing and management of the ITSO based smart tickets used in the scheme. The HOPS by ACT is fully ITSO compliant and currently processes over 2.5 million transactions on a typical day and is steadily growing as more and more bus operators adopt the HOPS service from ACT.  The HOPS by ACT currently powers the majority of the ITSO ticketing in the UK.

To complete the full solution offered, ACT provides the Customer Management Service (CMS) that integrates seamlessly into the HOPS, Retail POST® and ACT retail ticketing web portals. The Go-Ahead Group manages many different types of travel products, and the easy-to-use CMS is designed to manage all ITSO smart ticket product complexities, customer registration and provides a view on all customer journeys.
