ACT’s Cloud Ticketing Service has been deployed to enable ITSO ticketing and smart card top ups via the UK’s first iPoint, just launced in Weston-super-Mare.

A new interactive information point, the first of its kind in the UK with its unique variety of functions, has been officially launched in Weston-super-Mare.
The iPoint in Regent Street has a range of functions, allowing users to buy paper and smart tickets, top-up a smart card, plan a journey by public transport or browse news and events pages on the touch-screen system.
Two screens provide passengers with live information about bus and rail departures, along with a Twitter feed for live transport updates across the West of England. The iPoint is the first in the country to provide all these functions.
To mark the official launch of the iPoint Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, deputy leader of North Somerset Council and executive member with responsibility for transport, met with those involved in the iPoint’s development including 21st Century Passenger Systems, ACT, Crosville Motor Services, First West of England, Systra, Squid and SWSAL.
The group also celebrated the announcement that the wider roll out of Travelwest smart initiatives in Weston has been shortlisted for a National Transport Award. This recognises the roll out of smart cards on Crosville buses in Weston, the development of the iPoint and the innovative branding of the products.
Cllr Ap Rees said: “I’m pleased to officially launch the iPoint and celebrate this new, innovative facility with our partners. It’s very fitting that we have been shortlisted for a National Transport Award as North Somerset is leading the way with new public transport technology and being recognised at such a prestigious event is a seal of approval for this project.
“Thank you to all our partners who have worked so hard to get the iPoint up and running. I hope both local residents and visitors to Weston this summer will benefit from this new technology and be encouraged to use public transport.”
