06 October 2010

Cardiff Bus, one of the largest and dominant operators of bus services in Cardiff officially launched its' IFF smartcard scheme, announced today by the Deputy First Minister of Wales, Ieuan Wyn Jones.

ACT (Applied Card Technologies) back office ticketing systems and services are enabling Cardiff Bus to deliver revolutionary smartcard technology on all its commercial bus services. This strategic and innovative move by Cardiff Bus follows on from an extensive ACT technology delivery programme pioneered by the Welsh Assembly Government, with ACT providing the latest in ITSO transaction technology, called the HOPS, its enterprise class Customer Management System together with operational support services.

The smart ticketing schemes across Wales conform to the Governments ITSO standards , which delivers a best practice security framework for electronic ticketing for transportation networks.

Gary Watts, ACT Managing Director said, "We are delighted to work with Cardiff Bus on this exciting ticketing project. From the start there was a clear delivery mandate and a recognition that the travelling public does not get excited about technology, but rather what the technologies delivers. ACT extensive experience in transportation technology will help Cardiff Bus provide increased benefits to their customers."

Peter Heath, Associate Commercial Director at Cardiff Bus said,"The reason Cardiff Bus chose ACT was because of its enterprise class products, its in-depth ITSO knowledge, solid product base and its fully managed service abilities. Now we can look forward to providing our customers the highest levels of service and convenience that smartcard ticketing brings."

(i) HOPS - ACT has a formidable track record of designing, building and operating complex ITSO bus and rail ticketing schemes with its ITSO compliant HOPS (AMS). The ACT HOPS is proven to be reliable for managing high volumes of transactions data across multiple interfaces. Its resilient technical architecture, hosted by a number secure, reliable data centres, ensures the highest standards of service delivery and business continuity.
