ACT achieves ITSO certification for its Remote POST

09 January 2014

ACT extends Cloud Ticketing service following certification of its Remote POST

The UK’s network of smart ticketing top-up and collection points is set to increase following ITSO* certification of ACT’s Remote POST smart ticketing service.

The Remote POST by ACT is now fully certified to Part 11 of the ITSO smart ticketing standard and is delivered quickly and easily over ACT’s Cloud infrastructure. This latest ITSO certification from ACT helps connect suppliers of smart ticketing equipment with ACT’s established ticketing platforms, making it easy for ACT’s clients to deliver enhanced digital ticketing to UK transport passengers.

Part 11 of the Government backed ITSO specification for UK smart card transport schemes, enables the ISAM* (ITSO Secure Application Module) to be hosted remotely, over a secure wide area network, removing the need to install it into every ticketing or validation device.

By locating the ISAM in the Remote POST instead of in every ticketing device, a wider number of suppliers of ticketing equipment will now have an easy and inexpensive way to sell and service ITSO smart ticketing products.

The ACT Cloud Partner Programme, launched in September 2013, has already seen an exciting range of retail and mobile partners join forces with ACT to deliver the next generation in digital ticketing.

This latest ACT innovation dramatically changes the smart ticketing environment, offering powerful benefits for passengers, equipment suppliers, transport operators and local transport authorities. Passengers will benefit from extended sales channels and the convenience of online ticketing services, making it easier for them to manage their travel and payment arrangements, whenever it suits them. In turn, transport operators benefit from having more passengers prepaying and arriving ready to board with their valid ticket, which will speed up boarding times, reduce retailing costs and lower ticket administration costs.

Gary Watts, CEO, ACT said, “Our technological advances during the past year are starting to create new options for smart ticketing by extending both retail channels and ticket collection points. We want to make it easy for passengers to buy and collect their tickets either at home, in store or on their mobiles. Extending traditional ticket buying options means our clients can accelerate their smart vision, ensuring passengers can buy their tickets anytime, anywhere.”

 * ITSO specifies the secure technical, electronic platform on which UK smart ticketing schemes can be built. Part 11 was an addition to the ITSO specification and provides the technical specification to remotely locate ISAMs from the device that the user presents their customer media to.

* ISAM (ITSO Secure Application Module) is a secure, encoded microchip, which checks the holder's card permissions, authenticates and validates their electronic ticket, and stores journey data for further processing.
